Clark County has moved up to a level 3 public health advisory while Butler County dropped to level 2 after two weeks at the higher level. Butler County had been at level 3 for two weeks, at the start of which it was on the cusp of moving up to level 4, the highest alert level. A rise in positive cases in Clark County was connected to youth sports, long-term care facilities and one faith-based gathering outbreak.
The governor chided county fairs for not following guidelines
On Wednesday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine warned fair managers across the state that the state was seeing evidence that the state’s guidelines for holding fairs this summer were not being followed in some counties. He pointed out an outbreak of 19 coronavirus cases traced to one county fair, and said that if fairs wanted to continue, they will have to follow the rules and direction of their local health department.
The Foodbank mass food distribution was rained out
The Foodbank’s mass food distribution at the Wright State University Nutter Center yesterday had to close early due to rain and extreme weather, serving at least 300 households before it was closed. The Foodbank said that although it was shutting down that food event, its drive-thru pantry will be open Monday-Wednesday next week from 1-3 p.m. each day at its warehouse, 56 Armor Place in Dayton.
51,000 area residents filed for unemployment as extended benefits are about to end
The greater Dayton area’s new and continued unemployment claims fell again this last week compared to the week before, but still included 51,000 jobless residents. However, unless Congress acts soon, the extended $600 per week jobless benefit offered by the federal government will expire on Saturday. The average unemployment benefit in Ohio before the extended benefits was about $380 per week.
Ohio’s mask mandate is now in effect
The new statewide mask order is now in effect. The mandate says that masks have to be worn at all times when indoors at locations that aren’t a residence, when outdoors when maintaining six feet of distance is impossible, and while riding in, driving or operating public transportation such as taxis, car services and private ride shares.
