More than 15,000 customers in the region were without electricity late Thursday afternoon as storms accompanied by high winds damaged equipment and brought down trees on power lines.

That included more than 11,500 in Montgomery County and more than 1,700 in Butler and Preble counties at one point, according to the AES and Duke Energy online outage maps.

By 7:20 p.m. Thursday, power was restored to thousands but nearly 5,500 remained in the cold and dark.

“Crews are working safely through the night on restoration efforts,” a social media post from AES Ohio stated.

About 24 hours later, at 6:20 p.m. Friday, not quite 270 customers were in the dark.

A look at the outages as reported by AES Ohio, Duke Energy and Ohio Edison:

Butler County: 2

Greene County: 13

Miami County: 1

Montgomery County: 248
