It’s the time of year to discover how our area neighbors spend their free time in their unique gardens and welcome others in to share their uniqueness and beauty.
The 23rd annual Women’s Association of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra Garden Tour offers five area gardens for two days of tours, Saturday, July 9, and Sunday, July 10.
This year’s tour will be available an hour longer this year to accommodate a stop outside of Springfield.
Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 the days of the tour at any of the participating homes.
Proceeds raised benefit the Springfield Symphony Orchestra.
“They’re always different and every homeowner does their own thing. There are never two alike,” said Janet James, longtime event coordinator. “Some are big, some are little cottage gardens, even large estates. And there’s a historical aspect.”
Participating gardens include:
• Sherry and Tom Purnell, 2075 Northridge Drive, Springfield
• Coleen and George Muncy, 630 Snowhill Blvd., Springfield
• Lois and Karl Lind, 725 Dorchester Drive, Springfield
• Kathy and Tim Dennis, 201 California Ave., Springfield Twp.
• Danielle and Ryan Gillam, 8765 Old Columbus Road, South Vienna.
“People don’t rush in and rush out,” James said. “They are always interested in learning. That’s kind of neat.”
A map of the tour stops and more information is available at the Symphony’s website, www.springfieldsym.org/event/wasso-garden-tour/.
Advance tickets are available in Springfield at Curves West, Schneider’s Florist, Frame Haven, Heart of Country, Katie’s Hallmark and the Springfield Symphony office. Tickets are also available in Urbana at Bill’s Enchanted Flowers, and in Yellow Springs at Heaven on Earth Emporium.
This is one of three annual fundraising events that WASSO sponsors, including a culinary home tour in the spring and a holiday home tour in December.
