A mother is upset after she claims a waitress at a Katy, Texas, restaurant placed a napkin over her as she breastfed her son.
Dylan Downing was eating at a sushi restaurant Tuesday when her 2-month-old son, Mason, started crying.
"I needed to nurse, he needed to eat, and I just fed him," Downing told KHOU Wednesday. "She got a cloth napkin and placed it over me and my infant. I ripped it off and said, 'Why are you touching me and covering my child?'"
Downing said the waitress, Ratanna Bontmahamontko told her three men sitting nearby were complaining.
"Right away I thought, 'Oh my gosh, I should have asked her first," Bontmahamontko said, telling KPRC that she did place the napkin over Downing and covering Mason.
"Take my breast out of it, take breastfeeding out of it, if someone put a napkin over my infant’s face … that’s unacceptable," Downing said. "It's just a boob, that's what they're created for," said Downing.
Downing refused to tip the waitress and left a note about the incident on her receipt, which she took a photo of, and, according to KHOU, posted it on its Facebook page.
The note on the receipt read, "Do not touch breastfeeding women," and had two smiley faces.
"It's legal in Texas, I don't understand what the big deal is," Downing said. "It's just a boob. Look away. You can see them for free on the Internet. I'm just feeding my kid."
The manager of the restaurant said that he spoke to his staff and said this will not happen again.
