A year after leaving Comedy Central as host of "The Daily Show," Stewart's fans waited with bated breath for him to truly roast the 2016 election cycle and all those who inhabit it.
Stewart quite literally kicked Colbert out of his chair and delivered a 10-minute monologue that was straight out of his own version of "The Daily Show."
Stewart showed up in a plain gray T-shirt and eventually put on a suit jacket and clip-on tie at Colbert's insistence.
"Well, the convention's over," Stewart said at the top of his show. "I thought Donald Trump was going to speak. Ivanka said that he was going to come out, she said he was really compassionate and generous, but then this angry groundhog came out, and he just vomited on everybody for an hour."

Stewart listed what he thought were the main points of the convention before running a surprising round of clips.
"Republicans appear to have a very clear plan for America," he told the crowd at the convention.
"One, jail your political opponents. Two, inject Rudy Giuliani with a speedball and a Red Bull enema. And then three, spend the rest of the time scaring the holy bejeezus out of everybody."
Stewart then ran a series of clips of the things for which most people criticize Trump. His clips, however, were all things that conservatives said about President Barack Obama:
- Fred Thompson talking about how inexperienced he is (Trump has never held public office)
- Bill O'Reilly calling Obama the most divisive president ever (Trump has said he wants to kick out Mexican-Americans and do Gestapo-like checks on Muslims)
"A thin-skinned narcissist with no government experience -- yes, that sounds exactly like Barack Obama," Stewart said sarcastically.
Next came a series of clips of Fox News' Sean Hannity ripping into Obama and then essentially backtracking all the things he hated about the president when Trump exhibited the same traits.
Near the end of his segment, Stewart got serious and spoke directly to Trump supporters.
"This country isn't yours. You don't own it," he said.
"You don't own patriotism, you don't own Christianity. You sure as hell don't own respect for military, police and firefighters."
Stewart will reportedly return to the airwaves next week to roast attendees at the Democratic National Convention.
