Jimmy Fallon mocks Ryan Lochte at VMAs; Michael Phelps loves it

Comedian Jimmy Fallon took the stage at Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards while dressed as Olympic champion Ryan Lochte, and it kind of made everyone uncomfortable -- initially.

Lochte recently made headlines for recounting a story of a faux robbery in Rio, something he recanted after the news broke.

While some people, including Al Roker, were particularly perturbed by Lochte's lies, Fallon decided to make light of the situation.

Taking the stage dressed in athletic sweatpants with bleached hair and a mock medal, Fallon took credit for all five nominees for Video of the Year and even said he directed Justin Bieber's "Sorry," of which he sang a snippet.

"I directed all five nominees. What an amazing year I've had! I taught Drake the 'Hotline Bling' dance," he said. "I made 'Lemonade' with Queen Bey ... Who had the best video of the year? I can't tell you that. They're all so great and so talented. I could never choose. I couldn't tell you even if there was a gun to my head."

The audience reacted positively to Fallon’s wisecracks, as did internet users.

But the best reaction came from Michael Phelps, Lochte's fellow teammate and competitor, who immediately took out his phone and began snapping photos of Fallon.
