Adele's new album '25' won't be available on streaming services

Within hours of its much-anticipated release, popular music-streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music were informed that Adele’s new album, “25,” will not be made available for streaming.

The New York Times broke the story, citing three people with direct knowledge of the album release. Adele's spokesman declined to comment.

Columbia Records will handle the release of the record in the U.S.

The album is expected to be a huge hit. The debut single, “Hello,” sold over a million copies in the U.S. in its first week, according to Nielsen. The much-discussed video quickly went viral, and has been viewed over 400 million times.

According to The Verge, the decision to bypass popular streaming services could have major commercial and cultural ramifications. The Verge points out that Adele held her 2011 album off Spotify for months, and may have similar plans for her new album.
