‘Jesus Christ’ could land Springfield’s John Legend an EGOT

An EGOT would be a perfect ego boost for Springfield native John Legend, not that there is anything wrong with his  ego.

The singer, actor and humanitarian was nominated Thursday for his first Emmy for his work on “Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert.”

Legend spoke to ABC's "Good Morning America" about the nomination and shifted attention to his "Jesus Christ Superstar" cast mates.

“It's pretty fulfilling to find out our show is nominated so many times, 13 times, and particularly for me as an actor, which is not something I do normally as a day job," he reportedly said. "To even be nominated among such a formidable group of actors, that's pretty incredible."

The Emmy would put Legend among a very, very short list of celebrities with an EGOT: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

There are only  a dozen EGOT holders including Audrey Hepburn,  Whoopi GoldbergMel Brooks and Rita Moreno.

Legend reportedly told “Good Morning America” that he has had the “good fortune” to work with talented people.

"It feels good to be on the brink [winning an Emmy]," he reportedly told the morning show. "Even if it doesn't happen this year, if we do more on TV, it could happen another time, but this is probably the best shot I'll have for awhile. My fingers are crossed and if it happens, I'm very excited about the possibility."
