Diana Ross defends Michael Jackson, calls him 'magnificent incredible force' following abuse allegations

Diana Ross is the latest celebrity to weigh in on the sexual abuse allegations made against Michael Jackson.

In the recent HBO documentary " Leaving Neverland," the late King of Pop was accused by Wade Robson, 36, and James Safechuck, 40, of molesting them when they were children.

Ross, Jackson's close friend and mentor, took to Twitter to touch on the controversy Saturday – the same day that Barbra Streisand apologized for her comments that whatever Jackson's accusers experienced "didn't kill them."

"This is what's on my heart this morning. I believe and trust that Michael Jackson was and is A  magnificent incredible force to me and to many others," Ross tweeted before referencing her own song. "STOP IN THE NAME OF LOVE."

Ross' representative Mark Young told USA TODAY Sunday that they had no further comment on the tweet.

Reactions to Ross' remarks have been split on social media, with some dubbing her "cancelled" and others saying she knows Jackson better than anyone.

"Grey's Anatomy" actress Debbie Allen retweeted Ross's message with a supportive comment. "Ms. Ross is still the BOSS!!!" she wrote.

"You fake woke clowns can just sit ALL THE WAY DOWN. Don't dare come for the Queen @DianaRoss for telling the TRUTH about her baby Michael Jackson," one twitter user said. "She knew this man before he was a man. A lot of you are nothing but a bunch of uneducated ignorant BULLIES."

"Imagine people who never met or knew Michael Jackson, trying to tell Diana Ross of all people, who he was," another said.

"What is happening to Diana Ross right now is precisely why more celebs have not spoken out in defense of Michael," another wrote. "They don't want to be attacked or have their own reputations put in jeopardy. It's a sad state of affairs that we've come to this."

"First Streisand, now Diana Ross. They're getting cancelled like a chain reaction," another said, referencing Streisand's controversial comments.

"Diana Ross is done. It's over for her. Never listening to her music again," another tweeted.

The Jackson estate has condemned "Leaving Neverland," noting that Jackson, who died at age 50 in 2009, was acquitted of molestation charges in a trial in 2005.

"The legacy and the fans around the world, this is not going to do anything to them because they know the truth," the superstar's nephew, Taj Jackson,    told USA TODAY in February.
