The exhibit is on display and held its opening reception on Sunday. .

Drawn to the worlds of mystery and magic, Phillips has captured fairies, gypsies and carnival scenes in wall pieces, hanging pieces, 3-D art and more.

“She has whimsical, fun and inventive works with a nice energy and creativity to them,” museum curator Erin Shapiro said.

Phillips’ work may already be familiar to some museum patrons. Her piece “Fairy Dollhouse” earned the Museum of Art’s People’s Choice Award at its 71st Annual Members’ Juried Exhibition in 2017.

She works in mixed media including fabrics, paper mache, bead work, found objects, textiles and other forms. Shapiro points out while there are variations there is also continuity in works such as the carousels.

Phillips has also provided canvases so visitors in the interactive learning lab in the Chakeres Gallery can create their own pieces while surrounded by her works.

“We’re excited she’s provided these materials,” Shapiro said. “Her work can inspire to think about material differently in the day to day and recognizing them. There’s going to be a lot of programming involved in this exhibit.”

“Marvelous Journeys” will be available 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 12:30-4:30 p.m. Sundays through Sept. 9.
