He's going in a different direction.
Liam Payne of One Direction made a shocking announcement on social media Thursday, he's embarking on a solo project, signing with Capitol Records in the United Kingdom.
He said his band will always be family, but he's looking forward to what's in the future.
Payne is the second member of the boy band to have a solo project. Zayn Malik left the group last year and released his solo album "Mind of Mine" this year, ET Online reported. Harry Styles also signed a solo contract with Columbia in June, ET reported.
The band has been on hiatus for the past six months, CNN reported.
Fans are taking to social media to share their devastation over the news.
