JENNINGS, Darrell Eugene 76, a life-long resident of Springfield, passed away Monday afternoon, March 5, 2018, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Springfield on March 3, 1942, the son of the late Charles and Mildred (McWhorter) Jennings. Darrell retired from Gordon Foods following 17 years of service and previously retired from Kelsey Hayes SPECO following 30 years of service. He also owned and operated Jennings Construction for 10 years, selling and installing satellite dishes. Darrell volunteered with the South Vienna Fire Department for 7 years. He will be remembered as a quiet, gifted man with a heart of gold who could fix anything and had an answer for everything. His greatest passion was for fishing-anywhere at any time, Darrell was ready to fish. Honey, it is hard to remember all of the wonderful things you have done for people; we will all miss you. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sharon "Sherry" (Davis) Jennings; daughter, Tammie Sue Jennings McClure; son, David Eugene Jennings; three grandchildren, Jeffery Hamilton, Brandon Shaffer and Preston Jennings; and six great grandchildren, Austin, Alyvia, Bella and Giovanni Hamilton and Blake and Bryson Shaffer. Also surviving is a special sister, Rachel Jennings; step-brothers, Chuck, Jeff and Tim Jennings; many nieces, nephews, friends, and cousins, including a special cousin, Iva Nell Merritt. His forever family will be waiting with open arms at the gates of Heaven including his parents; a son, Richard Jennings; a beloved brother, Michael Jennings; his grandparents; and many aunts and uncles. Darrell's funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum. ,
