Ohio-made Acura RDX hits sales records

The 2019 Acura RDX — which is assembled in East Liberty, Ohio — reached 5,793 units sold in August, yielding third-consecutive monthly sales records, according to America Honda.

Another East Liberty-produced model, the CR V, saw sales in August of 34,610 units, an increase of 11.8 percent, on track to set what the automaker said is a new annual sales mark.

“Leveraging our manufacturing flexibility to increase our light truck supply continues to pay off for us,” Henio Arcangeli Jr., senior vice president of the American Honda Automobile Division, said in a recent Honda release. “The Acura RDX and MDX combined forces to deliver the best August of all time for Acura light trucks. RDX also continued its strong sales pace, achieving a third consecutive month of record sales since hitting the market in June.”

All RDX models for the North American market are built in East Liberty. Honda invested $54 million into the East Liberty plant to build the model there, with five of six models in the Acura lineup made in Ohio.

The 2.0-liter DOHC VTEC turbo engine is also made in Anna, about an hour’s drive north of Dayton off Interstate 75.

In all, Honda employs about 13,000 Ohioans, including about 1,000 workers who commute from the Dayton area and another 1,300 workers from the Springfield area.

Honda also operates a plant in Marysville. The company has twin distribution facilities in Troy, and it operates a research and development facility in Ohio.
