Jobless numbers for Clark, Montgomery counties released

Unemployment in Dayton and Montgomery County dropped slightly in May both compared to April and to May 2011, according to the most recent civilian labor force estimates from state government.

The jobless rate for Dayton last month was put at 8.9 percent, down from 9.2 percent in April and down as well from 10.7 percent in May 2011. For Kettering, the unemployment rate was 6.6 percent last month, down from 7 percent in April and down from 8.2 percent in May 2011.

For Montgomery County as a whole, the jobless rate was put at 7.6 percent, an improvement from 8 percent in April and 9.3 percent in May 2011.

In Clark County, that rate was put at 6.9 percent, a slight drop from 7.3 percent in April and down again from 8.7 percent in May 2011. In Springfield, the unemployment rate was put at 7.4 percent, a slight improvement from 7.6 percent in April and a two-point improvement from 9.4 percent in May 2011.

Greene County’s jobless percentage was put at 6.8 percent, down from 7 percent in April and from 8.2 percent last May.
