Springfield home fire a possible case of arson, police say

Dayton-area Flowerama location will close soon

The owner of the Flowerama store in Huber Heights said his location at 6007 Old Troy Pike is open for business for the next couple of months, but will close in coming months, pending a deal with Casey’s General Store to build a new gas station on the corner lot.

“Flowerama is still open and running at the moment,” said owner Mark Callahan. “We are going to close that location. That will probably be a month or two down the road.”

Callahan said Casey’s General Stores approached him to ask about purchasing the lot. Callahan said the timing to close the Flowerama works out because his franchise for the location will soon expire.

“The 20-year franchise is due to end this year,” he told the Dayton Daily News. “The only thing you can do is sign up for another 10 years to stay in business or close down … I plan on being retired within 10 years.”

“Casey’s came forward and made us a perfect offer and it was within the timeframe,” he said.

Callahan said that he will continue to operate Flowerama locations in Riverside at 490 Woodman Drive and in Kettering at 3000 Shroyer Road. He said those franchises still have about a decade left before expiring.

“If someone is willing to purchase those franchises from us, we would sell,” he said.

The new 4,685 square foot Casey’s retail convenience store and gas station could be one of the company’s biggest in Ohio, Huber Heights Councilman Richard Shaw said.
