Urbana sweeps Northeastern meet

Josh Calhoun won the 400 (52.89), Nick Cobb took the 800 (2:05.46) and Clark Ladd claimed the 110 hurdles (16.40) to power Urbana to first place with 130 points at the eight-team Northeastern Invitational boys meet on Friday, May 9.
The Hillclimbers also got firsts from Andrew Miller in pole vault (8-6), Will Barr in discus (153-1), Josh Colbert in the long jump (20-2.5), and the relay teams in the 800 (1:33.33) and 1,600 (3:33.42).
Extras
Jared Collier was first in the shot put (53-7) to help the host Jets take second with 104 points.
In other boys track action:
• Nate Bratka placed first in the discus with a meet record of 148-8, while Joe Yoder won the high jump (6-0) and the 1,600 meter team took first (3:33.25) as host West Liberty-Salem placed second with 113 points to Bellefontaine's 123 at the King Classic.
Girls track
Amy Evans took firsts in the shot put (36-04) and discus (118-01), while Tissa Rogan won the 100 (13.92) and Katie Raterman took the 200 (28.63) to lead Urbana's girls to victory with 144 points at the Northeastern Invitational.
Urbana's Laura Edwards won the long jump (14-11.75). Kasey Hosier was first in the 3,200 for Northwestern, which was second with 98 points. Katie Bunker of Cedarville took first in the 400 (1:00.96) and 800 (2:31.69).
Although she finished second in both events, Southeastern's Marie Egbert broke her own school record in the 3,200 (11:59.30) and 1,600 (5:42.67). The Trojans were third overall with 65 points.
In other girls track action:
• West Liberty-Salem placed third with 110.5 points behind wins from Kelsie Markin in the 1,600 (5:52.29), Kelsey Oakley in the shot put (33-8) and the 3,200 relay (10:40.08).
Graham got wins from Maggie Dade in the 3,200 (12:49.82) and Leah Geuy in the 300 hurdles (48.30), while Elise Masquelier took the 200 (28.01) and the 800 relay team was first (1:54.71) for Greenon.
Baseball
Mitch Monke's RBI groundout to first with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh proved to be the difference as North rallied for three runs to defeat Greater Western Ohio Conference foe Fairmont 4-3 and complete a memorable last game as Panthers (18-8, 6-3) on their home field.
In other baseball action:
• South fell to Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division foe Wayne 12-2 in six innings in the final game at Evans Stadium. The Wildcats (4-15, 1-6 GWOC Central) had only three hits.
• Blake Wirick, Levi Woodruff and Greyson Miller had two hits each as West Liberty-Salem (19-3) beat Fairbanks 7-4.
Softball
Urbana jumped out to a 5-1 lead and held on to improve to 12-10 with a 5-4 win over Little Miami.
Kacie Purinton had three hits and three RBIs, while Alisha Campbell also had three hits.
• Senior Kourtney Scott and Kiria Cole had two hits each as South fell to Wayne 14-2 in the GWOC in its final home game.
• Alyssa Brodbeck was 2-for-3 in North's 15-0 loss to Fairmont in the Panthers' last home game.
