When it comes to health safety in swimming pools during times of excessive heat, officials say it’s private home pools that are more worrisome than public pools.
Proper chlorine levels are typically maintained in public pools, providing enough strength to kill bacteria and allow for clean swimming. Halth inspectors check public pools regularly.
In times of high heat, private pool owners sometimes do not increase the amount of chlorine put in their pools. Officials said there may need to be twice as much chlorine in pools to combat bacteria during high heat.
