Keep an eye on weather radar as storms move in Thursday

Those headed outside Thursday will want to keep an umbrella at hand and an eye on the radar, as showers could pop up in the morning hours with severe weather possible late in the day.

“The weather is going to get a little bumpy,” said StormCenter 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell. “We’re going to have a couple of chances for showers and thunderstorms.”

Showers could first pop up during the morning commute, Elwell said. Temperatures are expected to climb into the lower 70s during the afternoon. A mix of sun and clouds is expected with breezy southerly winds. An isolated shower or storm is possible during the day.

“If we get some sunshine we’ll start to get a little more unstable,” Elwell said. “As we head later into the night, we could see some strong storms.”

A round of thunderstorms is expected late evening into the night. Some of the storms could be strong, possibly severe, Elwell said.

Clouds will linger Friday, with a chance for storms in the morning and passing showers into the afternoon. Temperatures will start the day near 60 degrees but fall into the 50s during the afternoon, Elwell said.

A break in cloud cover is expected Saturday with highs seasonably cool, in the middle 50s. Partly sunny skies are expected Sunday with temperatures rebounding to near 60 degrees. There is a chance for a shower by late evening, Elwell said.

Severe weather could return Monday with scattered showers and a possible thunderstorm, especially late in the day. Highs will be in the middle 60s.
