FAIRBORN — Wright State women’s basketball senior standout Molly Fox has watched the Raiders grow from a group that finished eighth in the Horizon League two years ago to a fourth-place finish last season.

“This,” Fox said after Thursday’s 68-50 loss to No. 14 Wisconsin-Green Bay, “shows us we have that much further to go.”

Fox, who held her fingers less than an inch apart as she spoke, had 16 points and 11 rebounds and freshman Kim Demmings had 18 points as the Raiders (11-6, 4-1) dropped their 21st straight game against Green Bay in a showdown between Horizon League co-leaders.

Wright State is 3-47 all-time against the Phoenix.

“We are going in the right direction, we just aren’t quite there yet,” Wright State coach Mike Bradbury said. “We still have a ways to go. I like our team and the talent on our team, but it is obvious we are not near their level, but we are continuing to move in that direction.”

The Raiders jumped on the Phoenix early. Demmings ran off six of the first eight WSU points as the Raiders opened an 8-3 lead with 16:54 left in the first half. The teams battled through two lead changes before Green Bay’s 2-1-2 press forced five consecutive turnovers that led to points.

“It is something they are really good at,” Bradbury said after the Raiders committed 31 turnovers. “We prepared for it for two days, but it is so hard to run in practice because they’re so big and quick.”

Green Bay led 39-23 at the break, but couldn’t pull completely free from the Raiders until an 8-0 run with less than seven minutes left in the game pushed the lead to 60-38. The Raiders had something to do with it, holding Green Bay — which leads the Horizon League in field-goal accuracy — to 37-percent shooting.

“We did fine defensively,” Bradbury said. “They scored a lot in transition off turnovers and that is what we have to stop.”
