SEATTLE — This just in. Tampa ranks ahead of Seattle in coffee consumption despite the fact every street corner here houses a coffee shop, and it rains more in New York City than Seattle despite three days of almost non-stop drizzle.

Something else. Seattle is also the place Wright State won its second game in two days, beating Belmont 82-73 Sunday, Nov. 15, in the Raiders’ third game of the Athletes in Action Classic at Bank of America Arena on the campus of the University of Washington.

Friday, the Raiders lost 74-69 to No. 14 UW, then beat Portland State 75-70 on Saturday.

Both those games involved comebacks by the losing teams that made the final score close.

Against Belmont, the Raiders held the Bruins scoreless for about 7 minutes, 30 seconds midway through the first half, and after scoring the first seven points of the second half, led 52-27.

“The first half, we played exceptionally well,” WSU coach Brad Brownell said. “We played about as well as we could.”

Belmont was not able to get the difference to single digits until the final basket of the game.

“We’re still trying to put together two good halves,” said senior Todd Brown, who led the Raiders with 25 points. “We had some slippage.”

Belmont cut WSU’s once gigantic lead to 11 points with 7:20 to play while the Raiders were working on some big-player foul problems, but Troy Tabler — who scored 16 points — drilled a 3-point shot that halted the comeback.

“We had to deal with that (comeback) last night,” said Tabler of the game with Portland State.

Consider it taken care of two nights in a row.
