FAIRBORN — Even after at least three visits to Wright State this past year, Kegan Clark of Jeffersonville, Ind., figured he was going to wait until the end of July to make up his mind about a college.

Tuesday, June 30, Clark visited WSU with his parents, and by the end of the day, gave his word to WSU coach Brad Brownell, giving the Raiders their first commitment for the 2010 class.

“They had three straight 20-win seasons,” Clark said. “It shows they know how to win. The coaching staff is real nice. The facilities are real nice. I met some players, and they were real cool.”

It didn’t make any sense to Clark to wait, so he’ll play his senior year at Jeffersonville knowing he has a commitment to WSU for 2010.

“He’s a kid who’s kind of a late bloomer,” said Jeffersonville coach Tim LaGrange of the 6-foot-4 Clark, who averaged 12 to 14 points and about seven rebounds per game as a junior. “His stock has really risen.

“He has had a really good AAU season and he was chosen for the Indiana junior All-Star team. When they played the seniors, Kegan really stood out athletically. He can hit the 3, and he’s a good midrange shooter.”

Clark said he played mostly a wing in high school, although LaGrange said he also could handle the ball.

“We had a good team, 18-5, so he didn’t have to do everything,” LaGrange said. “His stats could have been better, but we didn’t need him.”

Jeffersonville came as a team to WSU for a shooting tourney in early June, and LaGrange said, “When you get on campus, it blows you away. Then you throw in what quality people they are.”

Wright State will lose four seniors from this season’s roster when Clark enrolls, with two of them — 6-5 Todd Brown and 6-4 John David Gardner — in Clark’s size range.
