About Wright State
The Raiders ended a string of two straight wins with a 64-53 defeat at Butler on Thursday. Battle led all scorers with 18 points, the sixth time this season he reached double figures and the first since the second and third games that he did it in consecutive outings. (He had 11 against Loyola on Jan. 27). Arceneaux scored two points on Thursday, his second-lowest total of the season and lowest since a scoreless outing against Air Force on Dec. 7. Sophomore forward A.J. Pacher scored eight points against the Bulldogs, which nearly matched his output in the previous three games combined (nine). The Raiders played well offensively, shooting 44.7 percent and 10-of-21 from 3-point range, but they managed just 4-of-6 free throws.
About Valparaiso
Broekhoff, who is tied with Van Wijk for second in the league in scoring and is No. 1 in rebounding (8.7), combined 26 points, five rebounds and three steals (including 6-of-6 from 3-point range) as the Crusaders rallied to beat Detroit 78-73 on Thursday. They are 6-1 in their last seven games and reached second place behind Cleveland State in the league standings. Valpo has the league’s second-best offense, at 71.6 points per game, and leads the league in field-goal percentage, shooting 47.6 percent on the season. Reserve guard Jay Harris averages 10.5 points per game behind Broekhoff and Van Wijk as six players — including reserve guard Richie Edwards (7.7) — score better than seven points per game.
FYI
The Raiders are 2-2 at Valparaiso’s Athletics-Recreation Center since the Crusaders joined the Horizon League in 2007. ... WSU outscored Valpo 42-22 in the second half in a 73-55 win at the Nutter Center on Jan. 8, during which Battle scored a career-high 23 points.
