Game of the week

Tippecanoe at Kenton Ridge girls, Saturday,
7:30 p.m.: These two squads have combined to win the last four Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail Division championships.

This year’s no different, and Saturday’s game will help decide who brings home titles this season.

The Red Devils (10-7, 7-1) are tied with Tecumseh (15-2, 7-1) atop the Kenton Trail Division, while the Cougars (15-2, 6-2) sit one game back in second-place.

For the Cougars, the plan is simple: Win their final two Kenton Trail Division home games against the Red Devils on Saturday and Tecumseh on Feb. 11, and they’ll earn a share of the league title.

The Cougars have won six in a row since dropping back-to-back games to Tippecanoe and Tecumseh on Jan. 4 and Jan. 7.

In their last meeting, Ellise Sharpe hit two free throws with 19 seconds left to put the Red Devils on top 78-77. The Cougars had two shots to win the game in the final six seconds, but both shots rimmed out.

Kenton Ridge is led by seniors Mariah Harris (20.0 points, 13.3 rebounds, 6.4 steals, 5.6 assists, 2.3 blocks per game) and Lindsey Fenwick (15.0, 7.5 rebounds per game), both Division I college recruits, and junior Paige McCrary (18.0 points, 6.6 rebounds per game).

Best of the rest

Bellefontaine at Tecumseh boys, tonight, 7:30: The Chieftains are the last team to beat Tecumseh, and the Arrows want revenge.

Shawnee at Tippecanoe boys, tonight, 7:30: The Braves need a win to keep pace with Tecumseh in the CBC Kenton Trail.

Urbana at Graham girls, Saturday, 1:30: The Falcons lead both Urbana and Greenon by one game in the CBC Mad River Division with two games remaining.

Things to watch

Streaking: Both the Urbana and Tecumseh boys basketball teams will put winning streaks on the line tonight. The Hillclimbers have won 10 in a row, while the Arrows have won nine in a row.

Doubleheader: The Graham boys have won six in a row, but face a stiff challenge on Saturday against Blair Academy, N.J.

They’ll play at 3:30, followed by a match-up of nationally-ranked wrestling squads at 7:30 p.m.
