The Flyers have lost three straight games for the first time this season (they also dropped their final three A-10 games last season). ... They pulled out a 79-72 overtime win against the Billikens at home in their league opener. ... UD is second in the A-10 in foul shooting (75.5 percent) and rebound margin (plus-3.3 per game) but 13th in steals (5.4) and last in blocked shots (3.0). ... After getting 17 points at St. Joe’s and 20 points and 12 rebounds against Rhode Island, Chris Johnson’s inconsistency surfaced again in an 83-73 loss to Duquesne on Wednesday. He went 1-for-6 from the field, 0-for-4 on 3’s and scored just seven points. ... UD has dropped from 22nd to 69st in the RPI during its three-game skid.

The Billikens have won four of their last five and look NCAA-tournament bound. They stopped Xavier’s 43-game A-10 winning streak at the Cintas Center and reached a season high in points by blasting St. Bonaventure, 86-62, at home Wednesday. ... Success has brought bigger crowds to Chaifetz Arena. SLU is averaging 7,218 fans, nearly 1,000 more than last season. ... The Billikens have a deep lineup with 6-8 junior forward Cody Ellis, a former A-10 all-rookie selection, averaging 10.5 points off the bench. ... They’re first in the A-10 and eighth nationally in points allowed (57.2) and lead the league in scoring margin (plus-13.0). ... They’re in a three-way tie for fourth in the league at 5-3, trailing La Salle (6-2), Temple (5-2) and Xavier (6-3).

FYI

Charlie Spoonhour, who coached Saint Louis from 1992-99, died at age 72 on Wednesday. He had a 122-90 record with the Billikens with three NCAA tourney appearances. He also coached UNLV and Southwest Missouri State.
