Flyer women have chance to upset two Top 25 teams in one weekend

The University of Dayton women’s basketball team may have stunned the nation with its upset of 10th-ranked Michigan State on Friday, Nov. 13, but senior guard Kendel Ross doesn’t consider it such a shock.

“We came in thinking we could win,” Ross said. “This wasn’t a surprise. We knew we’d be in it down the stretch. We feel like we can compete with top-10 teams.”

Ross and her teammates will get another chance at establishing themselves nationally with a visit from No. 23 Louisville at UD Arena at 1 p.m. today. The Cardinals, who are opening their season against the Flyers, reached the NCAA championship game last year before losing to Connecticut.

Friday, Kristin Daugherty scored 17 points for the Flyers, who beat a top-10 team for the first time. A sizeable crowd of 2,046 turned out for the game even though it began at the same time as the Flyers’ women’s NCAA tournament soccer match at Baujan Field.

The UD-Louisville game will be broadcast on WHIO-AM (1290).

Good luck Flyers! Lets show them we belong in the top 25!

Great job with Michigan State, and do it again with Louisville.
