Archie Miller, the University of Dayton basketball coach, believes his team is capable of another surge like the one that produced four victories in the opening five games of the Atlantic 10 season — all against foes that are considered title contenders.

With barely one month to go before the A-10 tourney, though, the Flyers don’t have much time to find that winning formula again.

“There’s no panic mode,” Miller said. “There’s a lot of teams in the country that have lost a couple games. We’re one of about 50.”

Actually, the Flyers have lost four consecutive league games, which ties their second-longest skid since joining the conference in 1995-96. They dropped five in a row in 1996-97 and four straight in ’98-99 and 2005-06.

Coming off their worst offensive performance of the season in a 58-50 loss at Saint Louis, the Flyers (14-9, 4-5 A-10) don’t play again until facing Fordham (9-13, 2-7) in the Bronx, N.Y., on Saturday.

“This is a week to address what we need to address,” Miller said. “I thought we had great practices going into Saint Louis. Our effort level was great. We played to win. We didn’t play great on the offensive side of the ball.

“We’ll take another week and have an opportunity to really gauge ourselves in practice, allow guys to get their legs under them. This is probably our last opportunity to get any freshness the rest of the season.”
