Six to be inducted into county baseball hall of fame

List of inductees includes former minor-leaguer Rogers, 1943 Springfield state runner-up team.

SPRINGFIELD — Four individuals and two teams are part of the 2010 class of the Springfield/Clark County Baseball Hall of Fame, announced earlier this week.

The class will be inducted on Jan. 9, 2010. It includes three coaches, a former professional shortstop, a state runner-up high school team and a national champion adult team.

Heading the list will be 1960s- era Tecumseh standout and Washington Senators minor-league shortstop Rick Rogers.

The coaches include current Clark State Community College coach Al Fulk, former Tecumseh and Wittenberg coach Bob Davis and longtime summer youth coach Bob Timmons.

The 1943 Springfield High School baseball team, which finished as the state runner-up, and the 2002 Springfield Giants, the National Amateur Baseball Federation Major Division national champions, will also be honored.

The induction banquet will be held on Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. at the UAW Local 402 Hall on Urbana Road.

The guest speaker at the banquet will be National Baseball Hall of Fame member Hal McCoy, former Reds beat writer for Cox Ohio Publishing, which includes the Springfield News-Sun.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $11 for kids 12-and-younger, They will go on sale Friday, Nov. 6, at the National Trail Parks and Recreation District office on Mitchell Blvd., and Trophy Sports Center on N. Limestone Street, both in Springfield. For more information on the event, call Mark Miller at (937) 399-6750.
