Former Ohio State and NFL receiver Terry Glenn has been charged with auto theft in Irving, Texas in what his attorney says is a mix-up over a car rental. His attorney called the arrest a “crock of garbage.”
He said Wednesday that Glenn had rented a sport-utility vehicle from National Car Rental several weeks ago while his Bentley was in the shop. He says Glenn was on his way to return the SUV when police stopped and arrested him, telling him National had reported the vehicle stolen.
A call and e-mail to National's St. Louis headquarters Wednesday were not immediately returned.
Glenn played 12 NFL seasons from 1996 to 2007, with the New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys.
A year ago, he was arrested on public intoxication and marijuana possession allegations at an Irving hotel.
While a Buckeye in 1995, Glenn won the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top wide receiver.
