For the first time since 1997, the Triad High School girls basketball team received the No. 1 seed at the Division IV Sidney sectional tournament draw, held Sunday afternoon.

“I felt like going in at 18-0, we’d probably get credit,” said Triad coach Jason Malone.

The undefeated Cardinals (18-0), ranked third in the D-IV Associated Press state poll, will play eighth-seeded Jackson Center (7-11) on Feb. 18 at 2:30 p.m. in the Sidney 2 bracket first round. The winner will face fourth-seeded Russia (10-8) in the second round.

Jackson Center advanced to the D-IV districts last season, beating Triad 56-41 in the sectional finals.

“It’s a different year, a different roster,” Malone said. “In this sectional, you’re going to have tough games no matter what.”

In the Sidney 1 bracket, Mechanicsburg (13-4) received the No. 3 seed. It will face No. 11 Fairlawn (0-19) in the first round on Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. The Indians face a possible matchup with second-seeded Fort Loramie (12-6) in the sectional finals.

In the D-IV sectional at Brookville, Southeastern (9-10) earned the No. 3 seed. It will face No. 13 Ansonia (3-16) on Feb. 18 at 12:30, and could meet No. 8 Yellow Springs (8-10) or No. 10 Catholic Central (5-13) in the sectional finals.

Here’s at other tournament draws across the area:

Division II: In the D-II upper bracket at Xenia, Kenton Ridge (15-3) received the No. 2 seed. It will face No. 12 seed Greenville (3-15) on Feb. 15 at 6 p.m, and the winner will play Indian Lake-Ben Logan on Feb. 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Greenon (13-5) received the No. 4 seed, and it will play the winner of No. 5 Eaton (14-5) and No. 6 Urbana (11-6) on Feb. 20 at 6 p.m.

The most surprising move came in the lower bracket where third-seeded Tippecanoe (11-7) jumped into the same bracket with top-seeded and D-II No. 1 Carroll (17-1).

“We were happy,” said KR coach Ed Foulk. “We thought everyone would come would to the upper bracket. With them going below, it changed our bracket tremendously.”

Division I: In the D-I, Dayton 2 sectional at Lebanon, Tecumseh (16-2) earned the No. 5 seed. It will face Piqua (5-13) on Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. The winner will face No. 6 Northmont (11-8) on Feb. 21, 6 p.m.

The Arrows could face top-seeded Springboro (16-1) in the sectional finals.

Division III: In the D-III sectional at Wilmington, Greeneview (14-4) received the No. 3 seed. It will face No. 7 Blanchester (9-10) in the first round on Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. They face a possible matchup with No. 2 Fayetteville (17-2) in the sectional final.
