NORTH LEWISBURG — Triad High School senior Kelsey Funderburgh had a game-high 27 points as the undefeated Cardinals beat Catholic Central 68-44 in Ohio Heritage Conference girls basketball action on Thursday.
Funderburgh hit four 3-pointers for the Cardinals (8-0, 5-0 OHC), who outscored the Irish 22-8 in the third quarter to pull away. Faith Orecchio added 22 points.
Taylor Johnson had 17 points and Paige Lewis added 13 as the Irish fell to 4-4 and 2-3 in the OHC.
Mechanicsburg 72, Southeastern 62: Tori Purk had 28 points and 11 rebounds as the Indians improved to 5-1 and 2-1 in the OHC.
The Indians led 30-23 at the half, and the Trojans cut the lead to four in the third quarter, but couldn’t get any closer. Jamie Dodane had 16 points for Mechanicsburg, while Kristen Dunlap added 12.
Jenna Erwin had a game-high 32 points, while Taylor Perry had 13 and Mona Ratliff added 12 for the Trojans (3-5, 2-3 OHC), who have lost three in a row.
West Liberty-Salem 39, Northeastern 23: Becka Peterson had 18 points and Maria Daulton added 14 for the Tigers (5-3, 2-3 OHC), who’ve won back-to-back games after losing three in a row.
Haley McCohn had 11 points for Northeastern (0-7, 0-5 OHC), who were outscored 15-2 in the third quarter.
Wrestling
Springfield had three weight-class champions as the Wildcats finished third out of 12 teams at the inaugural Catholic Central Holiday Invitational.
Jonathan Roberts (145), Darryl Grayson (182) and Stewart Vlcek (195) all placed first as Springfield finished with 195 points. Stebbins won the meet with 323 points.
Cameron Luther (160), Matt Neiswinger (170) and Jared Panstingel (220) were all champions as the host Irish placed fifth (160). This was the first meet hosted by Catholic Central in 20 years.
