Wildcats fall to Fairmont in final seconds

SPRINGFIELD — Fairmont’s Phillip Kidd made one of two free throws with 0.7 seconds remaining in double overtime to lift the Firebirds to a 59-58 Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division boys basketball victory Friday night.

The Wildcats (4-7, 2-4 GWOC) have lost six games in a row, but have lost their last three by a total of five points. They’ve dropped back-to-back games in double overtime to Xenia and Fairmont, and lost to Northmont last Friday on a free throw with 0.1 second left.

Ryan Minney had a game-high 24 points for Springfield, going a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line. John Carson added a career-high 15 points.

Darryl Perry made a layup with 3.5 seconds remaining to force overtime, while Minney made a short jumper with 4.6 seconds remaining in the first overtime to send the game to double OT.

Graham 57, Ben Logan 33: The Falcons’ offense broke loose as they stayed in second place in the Central Buckeye Conference Mad River Division.

Grant Goddard had 15 points for the Falcons (6-4, 4-2 CBC), while Floyd Lowry added 12.

Greenon 76, Indian Lake 57: The Lakers (1-10, 0-9 CBC) cut the Knights’ lead to 44-40 in the third quarter. Greenon responded with a 32-17 run to improve to 3-3 in CBC Mad River Division.

Anthony Colletti scored a game-high 24 points, Josh Pilcher had 21 and Cody Carpenter added 17 for the Knights (7-5).

Bellefontaine 51, Kenton Ridge 27: The host Cougars were held to seven points in the first half and a season-low in points, falling to 0-6 in the CBC Kenton Trail Division.

Kenton Ridge (4-9) cut the Chieftains’ lead down to eight points in the third quarter, but Bellefontaine (6-6, 3-3 CBC) hit three straight treys to pull away.

West Liberty-Salem 33, Southeastern 27: The Tigers outscored the host Trojans 17-6 in the fourth quarter to pick up an Ohio Heritage Conference victory.

Ross Hickenbottom scored 11 points for West Liberty (4-8, 4-5 OHC). Southeastern (6-6, 5-4 OHC) led 21-16 after the third quarter.

Triad 47, Cedarville 41: The host Cardinals outscored the Indians 28-13 in the second half to erase a Cedarville 29-18 halftime lead. Triad improved to 2-9 in the OHC with both conference wins coming against the Indians.

Seth Donohoe scored 11 points and Hank LeVan added 10 points for the Cardinals (3-10). Hudson Grant tossed in 14 points for Cedarville (3-12, 0-9 OHC).

Dayton Christian 67, Emmanuel Christian 43: The Lions started off well, grabbing a 17-9 lead after one quarter. But they were outscored 57-26 the rest of the way to fall to 2-10, 1-4 Metro Buckeye Conference.

Ryan Mahoney had 12 points and Darius Stroder added 10 points for Emmanuel.

Yellow Springs 74, Xenia Christian 40: The host Bulldogs built a 43-18 halftime lead and snapped a six-game losing streak.

Greg Felder Jr. had a game-high 17 points along with 11 rebounds and five assists. Cole Edwards chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds and Roland Newsome also scored 14 points for Yellow Springs (3-8, 2-4 MBC).

Postponements

Two area games were postponed due to the inclement weather. Mechanicsburg at Greeneview was moved to Tuesday, Feb. 14. Northwestern at Urbana has no makeup date yet.
