CINCINNATI — Shawnee High School junior Kendra Crew led the area contingent at the 2012 Southwest Ohio High School Swimming and Diving Classic at St. Xavier High School.
The two-time state qualifier won the 200-yard breaststroke and placed second in the 400 individual medley Saturday night and won the 100 breaststroke Sunday.
The 29th-annual event is one of the largest invitationals in the country. More than 3,000 swimmers and divers and 120 schools were represented at the meet.
Crew won the 200 breaststroke in 2 minutes, 18.35 seconds. That was almost 5 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. She finished the 400 IM in 4:29.26, less than a second out of first.
Her time in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.02) was .34 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Other top-10 finishes from Saturday and Sunday included:
• Yellow Springs’ Elizabeth Malone won the 100 butterfly (58.09) and placed third in the 200 fly (2:07.95).
• Catholic Central’s Allison Lohnes placed third in the 100 backstroke (59.31) and fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:07.88).
• Catholic Central freshman Ragen Engle placed seventh in the 50 freestyle (25.14).
She also placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.97).
• Catholic Central’s 400 medley relay team of Engle, Lohnes, Stella Petroff and Amelia Samuelson placed 10th (4:13.72).
• Catholic Central’s Jeff Ross placed seventh in the 200 butterfly (1:58.30). He was the only area boy to record a top-10 finish.
