SPRINGFIELD — Drew Snyder has been named the girls basketball coach at Northwestern High School.
Snyder, a physical education teacher at the school, replaces Robyn Heaton, who resigned after two seasons.
Snyder, a 2004 Jonathan Alder graduate, played college football at Morehead State University. He’s coached basketball at the middle school level in the past, and served as an assistant football coach at Mechanicsburg in 2009.
“I’m excited,” Snyder said. “This will be my first experience coaching high school basketball. I’m definitely hitting the ground running.”
The Warriors went 15-27 during Heaton’s two seasons as head coach. Last season, the Warriors went 7-14 and 5-5 in the Central Buckeye Conference Mad River Division.
They’ve lost all five starters from last year’s team, but return a solid group of underclassmen.
“We’re going to be really young,” Snyder said, “but I think with practice they’ll be an aggressive bunch of girls.”
Snyder said Heaton left the program in good shape.
“The girls have a good basketball IQ because of her,” Snyder said.
