SPRINGFIELD — Northwestern’s Hayley Sullivan defeated Shawnee’s Marissa Knowles 6-1, 7-5 in third singles to help the host Warriors clinch a 3-2 victory over the Braves in Central Buckeye Conference girls tennis action on Thursday.
Helen Hua and second doubles team of Chelsie Brandyberry and Alyssa Waters won in straight sets as Northwestern (3-2) improved to 3-0 in the CBC.
Kenzie Detrick outdueled Lacey Lannom in first singles 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. The Braves’ first doubles team of Cassie Beam and Megan Oxner also won a three-setter (7-5, 4-6, 6-2) for the Braves (3-2, 2-1 CBC).
• Springfield didn’t lose a set in staying unbeaten with a 5-0 win over Xenia. Manisha Nehzad, Saarah Khan and Nicole Pavlatos were all singles winners for the Wildcats (6-0).
• Emily Bonar and Megan Schmitt lost only one game in second and third singles, respectively, as Kenton Ridge (3-1, 2-1 CBC) defeated Stebbins 4-1.
Boys golf
Daniel Lenk was medalist with a 40 and Andrew Williams carded a 41 as Northeastern (169) defeated Southeastern (189) and Xenia Christian (201). The Jets improved to 6-0 and 4-0 in the Ohio Heritage Conference.
• Clark Engle and Derek Tincher both shot 38s to lead Shawnee (2-1, 2-1 CBC) past Bellefontaine 161-175.
• Seth Donohoe was medalist with a 36 and Drue LeMaster added a 39 as Triad (3-2, 3-2 OHC) beat Cedarville 173-198.
Jordan Reese shot a 38 for the Indians.
• Brandon Mamer fired a 37 and Seth Currier had a 41 as Greenon (1-1, 1-1 CBC) lost to Benjamin Logan 158-162.
• Ryan Meister shot a 42 as West Liberty-Salem (5-0, 4-0 OHC) beat Greeneview 176-212.
• Dylan Allen was medalist with a 40 to help Graham (3-0, 2-0 CBC) beat Urbana 169-181.
Girls golf
Katie Taylor was medalist with a 45 as Catholic Central (3-3) edged Greenon 213-214 at Reid South. Harley Larson led the Knights with a 49.
Boys Soccer
Alberto Gonzalez had a goal and two assists as Tecumseh won its season opener over Fairborn 3-2.
