SPRINGFIELD — Tecumseh High School’s 51-34 victory over Shawnee last Friday put both teams into a tie for first-place in the Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail Division, making the league race wide open with six games remaining.

Tecumseh (6-3) and Shawnee (5-3) are tied atop the division at 3-1, while Stebbins (5-4), Bellefontaine (4-5) and Tippecanoe (4-6) are each one-game back at 2-2. Kenton Ridge is 0-4 and 4-5 overall, but nearly beat Tippecanoe, falling 53-52 last Friday.

“It’s a dogfight,” said Shawnee coach Chris McGuire. “All six teams are still in this thing. We knew that’s the way it’s going to be with a lot of parity in the division.”

The Braves bounced back with a 20-point victory at Butler on Saturday night.

They’ll return to action Friday against Bellefontaine in just their second home game of the season. The Arrows will travel to Kenton Ridge for another key rivalry game.

“The teams that get hot in January and February are the teams who are going to win it,” McGuire said.

Frank’s return: Tecumseh got a boost last week when senior guard Codi Frank returned to the team after missing the first seven games due to suspension.

Frank, who led the CBC with 4.5 assists per game last season, played in the Arrows’ victories over Springfield and Shawnee last week.

Block party: Ten area players are averaging at least one block per game this season.

Springfield’s Sean Burroughs leads the area with 4.1 blocks per game, while Northeastern Travis Hardesty is second at 2.7 per game. Both have 30 blocks this season.

Meanwhile, only one player is averaging more than three steals per game, Catholic Central’s Calum Latham (4.1). Latham also leads the area with 5.1 assists per game.

Big week: Southeastern (5-3, 5-2 OHC) has won four in a row after a 1-3 start.

This week, the Trojans have two big games, starting with a nonconference matchup at Kenton Ridge on Tuesday. On Friday, the Trojans host Greeneview (7-2, 5-1 OHC) in a battle for first place in the league.
