TIPP CITY — The Tippecanoe High School girls basketball team handed Kenton Ridge its first loss of the season, 78-77, on Wednesday in Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail Division play.
Elise Sharpe scored 36 points for Tippecanoe and hit two free throws with 19 seconds left to put the Red Devils on top.
Kenton Ridge missed a shot with 6 seconds left, intercepted a Tippecanoe inbounds pass and then missed a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Cougars fell to 8-1 and 3-1 in the Kenton Trail. They are now tied with Tippecanoe (6-5, 3-1 CBC) and Tecumseh (7-1, 3-1 CBC).
The Cougars led by eight points with three minutes to go, but Tippecanoe made 12-of-12 free throws in the final quarter. Sharpe had all six of her points in the fourth at the line.
Mariah Harris had 19 points for Kenton Ridge, and Erika Roush and Lindsey Fenwick each scored 18.
Tecumseh 71, Shawnee 42: Bianca Quisenberry scored 30 points and had 10 steals for the Arrows. It’s the third time in the last four games Quisenberry has scored at least 30 points.
Greenon 47, Northwestern 21: The Warriors led 8-7 after the first quarter, but the Knights dominated after that. Heather Slaughter and Teddi Tankersley each scored 12 for Greenon (7-2, 3-1 CBC).
Madison Plains 52, Southeastern 48: Jenna Erwin had 17 points for the Trojans (4-6).
Wayne 54, Springfield 40: Ashley Tunstall scored 12 points for the Wildcats (4-5, 0-3 Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division).
