SPRINGFIELD — Three Ohio Heritage Conference football players received one of the ultimate honors in Ohio high school football on Wednesday: being named to the All-Ohio Division VI first team.
Catholic Central senior quarterback Brian Kelly and senior wide receiver Jake Aldridge and Southeastern senior defensive tackle Michael South III all earned first-team honors.
Kelly completed 199 of 344 passes for 3,347 yards and 42 TDs.
He was also the Ohio Heritage Conference Player of the Year and the Southwest District Division VI Player of the Year.
Aldridge had 79 receptions for 1,253 yards and 14 touchdowns. He led the area with 1,607 all-purpose yards.
Aldridge and Kelly led the Irish to an 8-3 season, which ended with a 48-13 loss at home to Minster in the first round of the playoffs.
South III had 124 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, three fumble recoveries and one interception. He was a two-year starter.
“He’s unbelievable young man with a great work ethic,” Southeastern coach Greg Bonifay said. “I could go on and on about what type of person Michael is.
“He’s one of the hardest workers I’ve ever coached. He has a motor that’s non-stop. He could be blocked on a play, but still catch a running back on the other side of the field.”
