MIDDLETOWN — Catholic Central High School sophomore Cameron Luther won his first-ever prep tournament at the Middletown Fenwick Wrestling Invitational on Saturday.
Luther went 4-0 at the 160-pound weight class as the Irish placed fourth as a team.
Matt Neiswinger (170) and Troy Nave (182) went 3-1, each placing second.
• Five Graham wrestlers registered pins as the Falcons defeated Huntington, W. Va. 50-13 in their season-opening match.
Micah Jordan pinned Chance Donahue in 3:26 at the 126-pound weight class. Bo Jordan (152) pinned Demadre Turner in 2:32. Freshman Josh Couchman (182) got his first varsity pin against Carter Capehart in 3:22. Huston Evans (195) pinned Aerison Parrish in 59 seconds and Darin Bovey (285) beat Toney Kitts in 42 seconds.
• Austin Reese (120), Casey Nelson (220) and Michael Coleman (285) all had two pins each as Mechanicsburg defeated Kenton Ridge (49-26) and host Bellefontaine (51-27) in a season-opening tri-match.
Also going 2-0 for the Indians were Dalton Hiltibran (132) Adam Tilley (138) and Aeryton Erwin (145, 152).
• Zach Gibson (220) and Keegan Shillito (152) had two pins each as Greenon (2-0) beat Madison Plains (32-21) and Fairborn (36-30). Gibson pinned Austin Bolden at 2:53 that won the duel against the Skyhawks.
Bowling
The Mechanicsburg boys won the Preseason Shootout at HP Lanes in Columbus on Saturday, beating second-place Southeastern by 217 pins.
Mechanicsburg’s Kyle Mayberry and Corey Hosier and Southeastern’s Trey Cooper and Zach McGraw were named to the all-tournament team.
The Indians girls squad was runner-up in the girls tournament, 106 backs of champion New Lexington. The West Liberty-Salem girls were third with 2,567 pins.
