SPRINGFIELD — Catholic Central High School senior Patrick Greitzer has signed a national letter of intent to continue his swimming career at Miami University.
“It was pretty much between Miami and Ohio State,” Greitzer said. “I felt more comfortable with the academics at Miami, and the whole general feeling that I got from the team was better at Miami.”
Greitzer finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke in the Division II state meet in February. He also recently received All-American status from the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association in that event with a best time of 58.26 seconds.
Greitzer said he will probably swim the 100 and 200 breaststroke in college and also compete with some relay teams. He knows Miami’s pool well since the district meet, among others, is held there every season.
“I’ve been swimming at the Miami pool since I was 10,” Greitzer said. “I love their pool. It’s one of the fastest pools I’ve ever swam in. Everyone just has good energy when they swim there.”
Miami is coached by Pete Lindsay, who is in his 26th season. The RedHawks finished fourth at the Mid-American Conference championships in March, and two swimmers claimed individual titles.
Greitzer has been admitted to the honors program at Miami and plans to major in zoology and then go to dentistry school after graduation.
