Game of the week
Catholic Central at Southeastern boys, 7:30, tonight: The Irish beat Southeastern 53-48 in overtime at Jason Collier Gymnasium on Dec. 16.
The rematch tonight in South Charleston should be just as entertaining for these Clark County rivals.
The Irish (9-3, 6-3 Ohio Heritage Conference) have won three in a row after back-to-back losses. They’re led by senior duo Brian Kelly (18.6 points per game) and Calum Latham (13.5 ppg).
After its loss to Central, Southeastern (7-6, 5-4 OHC) won five in a row. The Trojans then lost three in a row, but bounced back with a 64-59 victory over Madison Plains on Tuesday. They’re led by junior Duncan Mercer (13.0 ppg).
The Irish sit in third place in OHC behind Greeneview (7-1 OHC) and Mechanicsburg (6-2 OHC). They face the defending champion Rams on Tuesday, but know they can’t look past the Trojans.
Best of the rest
Graham at Greenon boys, 7:30, tonight: The Falcons have won four in a row since a 3-4 start.
Urbana at North College Hill boys, 7:30, Saturday: The Hillclimbers will face a tough opponent in the perennial Cincinnati power.
Greeneview at Mechanicsburg girls, 7:30, Saturday: A battle between second-place teams in the OHC.
Things to watch
Keeping pace: Tecumseh (10-3) and Shawnee (8-4) boys teams are locked in a first-place tie in the Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail Division, each at 5-1. Both need big conference victories tonight to keep pace in the league title race.
The Arrows travel to Riverside to face athletic Stebbins, while the Braves, who struggled in a 25-point loss to Urbana on Tuesday, host fiesty rival Kenton Ridge.
Conference meets: The postseason swimming tournaments are almost here, but they’ll decide the conference champions first. The GWOC meet will be held in Trotwood on Friday and Saturday, while the CBC meet will be held on Saturday at Wright State.
