SPRINGFIELD — The Southeastern High School boys bowling team, in just its second season as a varsity sport, won the Clark County tournament on Saturday at Northridge Lanes, edging Kenton Ridge 4,098-4,089.
Trey Cooper led the Trojans with a 646 series, finishing third overall. Zach Battin placed eighth with a 604. Rob Hannah bowled a 601 series and placed 10th.
Kenton Ridge’s Mitch Boisel and Tecumseh’s Justis Seitz tied for the individual title with 650 series.
Other top-10 finishers included: K.T. Wallace, Northwestern (fourth, 635); Jared Armentrout, Kenton Ridge (fifth, 617); Jacob Boggs, Northwestern (tied for sixth, 613); Jimmy Johnson, Tecumseh (tied for sixth, 613); and Darren Maiolo, Springfield (ninth, 603).
Northwestern won the girls tournament with a score of 3,714. Kenton Ridge placed second with a 3,661.
Bailey Current led the Warriors with a 613. She placed second. Megan Oty took fifth place (575). Stephanie Dougman finished seventh (551), and Ashley Youngerman placed eighth (550).
Kenton Ridge’s Hannah Benston won the individual title (642). Other top-10 finishers were: Bridgette Castiaux, Kenton Ridge (third, 600); Lily Minter, Shawnee (fourth, 578); Katelyn Clevenger, Greenon (sixth, 552); Casey Gossett, Springfield (ninth, 548); and Alyx Kearney, Kenton Ridge (10th, 537).
Wrestling
Lakewood St. Edwards picked up 10 wins to defeat Graham 39-17 in a matchup of nationally ranked teams.
The host Eagles were able to win the close matches against the Falcons, who are ranked seventh in the nation. St. Edwards, ranked second in the nation, had three wins coming in overtime, one decision by one point and one decision by two points.
L.J. Bentley edged Eli Stickley 6-5 at 106 pounds.
Alex Moore decisioned Eli Seipel 2-0 in overtime at 112.
Dean Heil beat Micah Jordan 7-5 at 126.
Dustin Abounader gave Huston Evans his first loss at 182 with a 3-2 decision in double overtime.
Jordan Belford edged Darin Bovey 3-2 in triple overtime at 285.
“I thought we could win eight matches. We only won four,” said Graham coach Jeff Jordan. “You can’t lose matches in overtime. It killed us tonight. St. Edwards just wanted to win this match more than us.”
Ryan Taylor earned a technical fall against Chance Driscoll, 24-9, at 120. Blake Kastl edged Markus Scheidel, 4-3, at 145.
Bo Jordan improved to 26-0 at 152 with a technical fall against Matt VanCuren, 20-5.
Isaac Jordan stayed a perfect 25-0 at 160 with a major decision against Jacob Davis, 12-1.
