Game of the week
Greeneview at Southeastern boys, tonight, 7:30: The Rams beat the Trojans 63-38 in Jamestown on Dec. 9, but both are ready for a big game against one of their biggest rivals.
Greeneview, ranked 13th in Division III, is 8-2 and 6-1 in the OHC after dropping an overtime heartbreaker to Northeastern last weekend. They’re led by junior Evan Bradds, an Ohio University recruit, who’s averaging 19.2 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.
Since starting the season 1-3, the Trojans have won five in a row. They’re 5-2 in the OHC, and a victory would put them in a tie for first-place with the Rams.
In the last meeting, the Rams made eight 3-pointers, including seven in the second quarter. But they know they’ll face a much-tougher environment in South Charleston.
The teams have combined to win the last three OHC titles. Southeastern won back-to-back titles in 2008-09 and ’09-10, while Greeneview won last year’s OHC crown.
Best of the rest
Tecumseh at Kenton Ridge boys, tonight, 7:30: It’s always a fun atmosphere when these teams match up twice a year.
Springfield at Northmont boys, tonight, 7:30: The Wildcats have lost two in a row, and need a big win to bounce back in the Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division.
Tecumseh at Tippecanoe girls, 7:30: With a victory, the Arrows can move into a first-place tie with the Red Devils with four games remaining.
Things to watch
Rebounding machine: Greenon junior Anthony Colletti stands just 6-foot tall, but he’s been rebounding everything for the Knights this season. He had 24 rebounds against Northwestern last Friday night, and is leading the CBC in both scoring (20.0 ppg) and rebounding (12.1 rpg).
Flyin’ To The Hoop: After Friday’s clash with Southeastern, the Greeneview boys will face Norcross, Ga., at 1:45 p.m. Monday in the annual Flyin’ to the hoop showcase at Kettering’s Trent Arena.
The Blue Devils are 8-6, but play a national schedule. Norcross has had several graduates play professionally, including Al-Farouq Aminu (New Orleans Hornets) and Jodie Meeks (Philadelphia 76ers).
Classic in the Country: The Tecumseh girls will also have a tough game on Martin Luther King Day, facing Lorain (8-1) at 11:45 a.m. Monday in the annual Classic in the Country at Berlin Hiland.
