SPRINGFIELD — The Greeneview High School boys basketball team is getting used to playing on the road.
The Rams (10-4, 7-1 Ohio Heritage Conference) have played 10 of their 14 games on the road.
They host Catholic Central (10-3, 7-3) tonight in their first home game since Jan. 10 against Cedarville.
“It’ll be nice to be at home,” said Rams coach Bill Green.
They’ve played four in a row on the road over the last three weeks. Their home game against Mechanicsburg earlier this month was postponed due to inclement weather.
They also missed out on three home games to compete in the Washington Court House holiday tournament and the Flyin’ to the Hoop showcase earlier this month.
Tonight, they’ll face a tough Irish squad that’s won four in a row.
“It’ll be a great game,” Green said. “These groups have always had a great rivalry since junior high.”
Since starting the season 7-1, Greeneview is 3-3 in its last six games. The Rams hope to keep improving before the postseason begins in mid-February. The main goal, Green said, is to repeat as OHC champions.
“We’ll just play them one at a time and see what we get,” Green said. “Hopefully we can play well down the stretch.”
Big night: Northwestern junior Tevin Springs doubled his best scoring output of the season Friday scoring 33 points in a 72-59 victory over Indian Lake. Springs went 12-of-18 from the field and hit two 3-pointers. He also went 7-of-9 from the free throw line.
Springs has scored double-figures in nine games, but his season-best was 16 until Friday. Before Friday, he scored 30 points in the last three games combined. He’s hitting 42.9 percent (18-of-42) from 3-point range.
Staying hot: Several area teams are streaking into February.
Urbana (12-1) has won 10 in a row. Its last loss was against Tecumseh on Dec. 13. It went a perfect 7-0 in January.
Tecumseh hasn’t lost since Dec. 20, winning eight in a row. It travels to Northwestern tonight before hosting Bellefontaine, the last team to beat them, on Friday.
Since falling to Urbana on Jan. 3, Graham has won six in a row. It faces Indian Lake on Friday before hosting a tough game against Blair Academy, N.J., on Saturday.
