COLUMBUS — Cedarville High School junior Jordan Reese shot 84 in the second round of the OHSAA Boys Golf Division III state championship on Saturday at the Ohio State University Scarlet Course, finishing seventh with a two-day total of 164.
He finished 10 shots back of champion Andrew Bieber, a junior from Gilmour Academy.
“I know he was disappointed in the way he played,” said Indians coach Jeff Gilbert, Reese’s uncle. “He wanted to come back and shoot a better score than yesterday. It didn’t work out, but I think it was a good experience for him.”
Reese entered the day four strokes back in third place after shooting 80 in the first round.
He shot 43 on the front nine and 41 on the back. The wind played a big factor on Saturday, reaching over 20 miles per hour throughout the day.
“It made it tough on everyone,” Gilbert said. “You have to be doing everything pretty well to have a good day.”
Gilbert said Reese did a better job reaching fairways, but struggled in his short game, which had been a strength all season.
“It was hard to string things together,” Gilbert said. “The wind was blowing putts around and everything.”
The seventh-place finish earned him second team All-Ohio honors. The top five earned first team honors.
Gilbert said Reese will be even more motivated to get back to the state tournament next season.
“If I know him, he’ll be out somewhere hitting (today),” Gilbert said. “I’m sure he wants to experience it again next year.”
