The Division II boys basketball sectional at Springfield High School this season will have a new look with the addition of Trotwood-Madison.

The athletic Rams (8-6) are a traditional D-I powerhouse, but they’ll drop down to the D-II tournament this season.

“It gives us a little different dimension that we haven’t had the last couple of years,” said Urbana High School coach Jeremy Dixon.

Urbana (14-1) will likely receive the top seed in Sunday’s tournament draw, although coaches still have a week to vote on seeding.

“I think we’ve got a chance,” Dixon said, “But I haven’t really thought a lot about it.”

Eaton moves to the Miamisburg sectional, but Milton-Union takes its place in Springfield. Milton-Union joins Greenville and Trotwood as the only non-Central Buckeye Conference schools at the sectional. The familiarity usually leads to several tight games.

“The top five or six teams are pretty even,” Dixon said. “It’s always tough over at Springfield.”

At the same time, the addition of the Rams could have teams trying to stay away from them. They’re coached by former Greene-
view coach Rocky Rockhold.

“I don’t think it’s any secret that despite their (8-6) record, Trotwood is a pretty talented basketball team,” Dixon said.

Conference races: In the CBC Kenton Trail Division, Shawnee (11-4, 7-1) holds a one-game lead over Tecumseh (12-4, 6-2).

The teams meet for the second time this season at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Shawnee in what will likely decide the title race. With a victory, Shawnee would clinch the outright title, its first since 2004.

Tecumseh needs a win to keep its hopes of a title share alive. The Arrows won the first game 51-34 in New Carlisle on Jan. 6.

Bellefontaine (9-7, 5-3) remains in the title race, but needs Tecumseh to beat Shawnee. Then it needs to beat the Braves in its final conference game Feb. 17.

In the Ohio Heritage Conference, Greeneview (12-4, 10-1) holds a one-game lead over Mechanicsburg (11-5, 9-2) with three games to play.

The Rams face Cedarville on Friday, while Mechanicsburg hosts Triad.

Greeneview hosts Mechanicsburg on Feb. 14. The Rams also host Northeastern on Feb. 17, while Mechanicsburg hosts Catholic Central.

Thousand-point club: Urbana big man Zach Stillings became the first player since Mike White, a 2001 grad, to surpass 1,000 points at Urbana. He’s the seventh player in school history to accomplish the feat.

The Hillclimbers face a tough game at Graham at 7:30 p.m. Friday. With a victory, Urbana can wrap up its first CBC Mad River Division title since 2000.
