The infield and outfield at Fifth Third Field have been resurfaced as part of a reconstruction project for the Dayton Dragons' stadium.

The project's goal is to have an improved playing surface, drainage and irrigation system.

Approximately 100,000 square feet of Kentucky Bluegrass has been installed.

The entire infield was installed Wednesday, Dec. 7, while the outfield turf was done in November.

This is the first complete field reconstruction since the ballpark was built prior to the 2000 season.

The Dragons have also purchased six tons of a clay-based material to rebuild the pitcher's mound. This part of the project has not yet been completed.

The Dragons open the 2012 season, their 13th in the Midwest League, on April 5 at Fifth Third Field against the West Michigan Whitecaps.
