WWE star blasts rental car company after he finds loaded gun in glove compartment

Shelton Benjamin, the star on World Wrestling Entertainment’s Smakdown Live program, is often marketed as the world’s greatest tag team wrestler, but thanks to Budget Rental Car he may now be the angriest.

Benjamin tweeted a photo of a small Ruger semi-automatic pistol with a laser red-dot scope mounted to it, along with a clip inside a gun pouch. Benjamin had been driving the car for four days and didn’t know the gun was in his car before he discovered it in the glove box.

“Thank you Budget for your great service of putting my reputation, freedom and quite possibly my life in jeopardy,” Benjamin said in his tweet. “I’ve been unknowingly driving your car around the last four days with a ... loaded gun in the glove compartment!”

The gun appeared to be a Ruger LCP .380 caliber pistol. There’s also a clip visible in the photo, but the angle of the photo doesn’t show if there’s another one loaded into the grip of the pistol.

Benjamin was a distinguished amateur wrestler at the University of Minnesota, where he also coached shortly after his senior year. He was teammates with future WWE champ and UFC champ Brock Lesnar. The two broke into WWE’s developmental promotion OVW as a tag team.

Benjamin would later team with Charlie Haas when he made his WWE debut in 2002 and worked with former Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle.

Benjamin was a two-time NCAA All-American. He’s won multiple singles and tag team titles in WWE as well as Ring of Honor. He’s currently in a tag team with another former amateur champion, Chad Gable.
