WSU pitcher Ryan Weiss Freshman All-American

Wright State University pitcher Ryan Weiss was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball on Wednesday.

From South Elgin, Illinois, Weiss was the Horizon League freshman of the year this season and was first team all-league. He led the league in ERA (2.13), tied for first in strikeouts (53) and tired for second in wins (five).

He is the sixth Raider to earn freshman All-American honors since 2009. Others were Michael Schum (2009 American Baseball Coaches Association and Collegiate Baseball), Sean Murphy (’14 Collegiate Baseball), Matt Morrow (’15 Collegiate Baseball), Gabe Snyder (’15 Collegiate Baseball and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) and Caleb Sampen (’16 Collegiate Baseball).

WSU (38-21 overall; 21-9 Horizon League) was guided by first-year coach Jeff Mercer.
