Wayne blown out by Huntington at Flyin’

It’s not as if the mighty Wayne boys high school basketball team has been knocked out, but the Warriors surely have been buckled.

Wayne lost its second straight game by a 91-60 blowout to Huntington Prep (W.Va.) in Day 2 of the 15th annual Premier Health Flyin’ to the Hoop at Trent Arena on Saturday. On Friday Wayne fell 67-55 at Springfield.

“We gotta get better,” Wayne coach Travis Trice said after the unaccustomed beat-down at Flyin’. “We’ve got new guys at Wayne who don’t understand how we do things and we’re trying to figure those things out. We played hard early but when you get behind, it’s about what kind of fight you have. We’re trying to figure some things out. We’ll get it turned around.”

Wayne (9-4) also has lost to Northmont and Buford (Ga.) in a holiday tournament. L’Christian “Blue” Smith led Wayne with 17 points. Darius Quisenberry played in his second game since becoming eligible this weekend after transferring from Tecumseh last year. He tallied 16 points.

Keyshawn Bryant led a dunkfest for Huntington and scored 19 points.

“This doesn’t affect anything,” Trice said. “The things we’re trying to do and accomplish are still intact.”

Alter girls 54, Cle. St. Joe Academy 36: Libby Bazelak (Duquesne signee) hit 8 of 11 shots and tallied a game-high 22 points as the Knights made Flyin' history by winning the first girls game in the 15-year history of the event in Saturday's opener.
