Urban Meyer: Unsure Barrett will start Big Ten title game

J.T. Barrett had a procedure done on his right knee following an injury last week at Michigan, Ohio State coach Urban Meyer confirmed Friday. Meyer reiterated that Barrett was cleared to play in Saturday’s Big Ten title game against Wisconsin. But the Buckeyes’ coach said he has not decided who will start at quarterback against the Badgers or how much Barrett would play.

“Those are all decisions I’m going to make tomorrow,” Meyer said.

If Barrett does not start Saturday, redshirt freshman Dwayne Haskins will make his first career start in a game that could put Ohio State in the College Football Playoff.

Barrett was hurt in a bizarre incident involving a cameraman while warming up against the Wolverines last week. He played two-and-a-half quarters in the Buckeyes’ win over Michigan, but he was pulled in the third quarter and limped to the locker room. On Thursday, Tim May of the Columbus Dispatch reported Barrett had an arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

“One of the toughest human beings, I’ve come across in my career,” Meyer said of Barrett. “He’s all in. Just a unique individual.”

Barrett was named the Big Ten Quarterback of the Year for the third time in his career on Thursday. Haskins, meanwhile, has 565 passing yards, 4 touchdowns and 1 interception on 57 attempts this season.
